Well, it did rain.  Called for thunderstorms all day, but the weather was clear. Pretty much right up until I got to the building it was nice.  We unloaded all the bread and new signs from the car, and the sky pretty much opened up.

Here’s something that kind of struck me as odd.  My contract says that I have to be open when the pool is open, usually, 11-7 each day.  But when the ranger came up to tell me the plan (because technically they don’t close the pool until it thunders or lightning’s), she informed me that I could close, but she was going to make the dozen or so lifeguards stay for another 2 hours.

I realize that state run organizations aren’t really governed by the laws of supply and demand, but when the people flat out say, ” well, its been budgeted for already, so it doesn’t matter if no one is here, they get paid.” I think something is wrong. Regardless of whether or not people come into the pool, like when its raining, the guards will get paid.  So they over staff the pool with guards, and make them do easy work, like garden or mulch.  Just weird in my book, I just sent my entire staff home when they said we could close.  No use paying them if there aren’t any customers. 

I wanna get paid regardless of what happens.  That’d be awesome.  More to come later tonight.

  1. Concerning the lifeguards getting paid, it depends if it is per day or per hour. If I was a lifeguard depending on a little extra money for the summer, I don’t think I would mind doing something else for those extra hours if need be.

    The ranger is probably trying to protect himself in case anyone tries to sneak in, thinking the pool is still open.
