So now that you’ve gotten a feel for blogger.com, its time to sign up and make your own blog. Blogging isn’t hard; it takes a very low technical skill level, and a small amount of time each day or week that you decide to blog.

But first, you have to decide what to blog about. One of the key factors in making any blog profitable in the long run is to blog about a particular topic. If you pick a topic and stay with it, people within that niche will follow your blog. That’s one of the main goals, to have a group of followers. This ensures that each time you post an update, people will read it. The key to making money with a blog is site traffic.

Once you have signed up and decided on what to blog about, its time to pick a theme, and optimize your blog a bit. The actual theme, such as the color scheme and pictures, will not effect your optimization. What is important, though, is to include the keyword that you want people to associate with your site around five times in the title and description.

When a search engine crawls your site, it generally starts at the top left, and works its way to the bottom right. So if your site contains your keyword both in the heading and the description, the search engine is more likely to associate your website to that keyword. There are many other factors that contribute to whether or not your site is associated with those keywords, but we’ll start there for now.

It’s important to have search engines index and list your site under what it’s about. Take, for example, Jake, who runs jakesworldblog.com (fake person/blog). His blog is about politics, but he doesn’t mention it in his title or his description. So when people search Google for political articles, Jake has a considerably lower chance of coming up in the search results. If you take into account that people search Google for politics about 5 million times a month, that’s a huge amount of traffic that Jake will lose.

Now that we’ve basically set up your blog, by far the most important part comes next. Blogging. Google and other search engines like content very much. So, just begin writing content, keep it near and around your keyword topic, and soon your website will be indexed by the search engines (which is important to the next steps, making money).

In our final post, we’ll go through how to set up a Google adsense account, as well as place the ads on your blog. Where to put them and how to set them up all makes a difference in how your site performs.
