As I’ve stated before, the ultimate goal for any new entrepreneur should be to create something which makes money with minimal use of their time.  I’ve begun to realize that information holds the greatest key to completing this task.  Things have changed; they are not as they used to be.  There is an incredible transfer of information which is constantly happening everywhere.  Whether its email on the go or the news scrolling on the television at lunch, we are constantly introduced with more and more information.  We love it; we can’t get enough of it.

So use that to your advantage.  One of the things recent social entrepreneurs did was harness the power of the collective thirst for information.  Facebook.com and Myspace.com are nothing more than personal informational tools which allow their users to take in knowledge about their friends and surroundings.  They are simply organizers of information which allow people to access large chunks of data with ease.  We want more information, and they became very rich giving it to us.

That’s not to say that everyone should be out trying to create the next Facebook.  That’s impossible, the niche has been filled.  All I’m proposing is that information is the next big money maker.  Everyone can have a piece of the pie, with the right idea and a little bit of effort.

Lets get back to our original idea, making some company which makes money constantly, with little input from us.  Why not sell information.  It is a commodity in high demand, and really, everyone has some to give.  What are you good at?  What do you do?  What do you like?  All these things are simple questions which lead to different solutions.

Start small, make a blog, and just write.  See what kind of information you can contribute.  Insert some ads, see if you get paid, who knows, maybe lots of people will want to hear what you have to say.  If it works, write a book, just a small one, 40-50 pages, about something you like, or something you are good at.  Be the expert.

Think about the numbers involved.  The cost of printing and binding a 50 page book is equal to or less than $10.  If you make a website and sell 200 copies of your book for $20, you’ve just made yourself $2000.  If you took 40 hours to prepare the book, that’s $50 an hour.  Not bad for selling information.

Although real estate is my passion, information will probably be my method for capital.

  1. I also believe that information is the most easily marketed commodity on the web. Nice site. I look forward to your future posts

  2. Interesting that this came along at the time it did. I began my blog with those thoughts in mind, and almost one year later, I am contemplating the book aspect of things. Blogging has been a fantastic way for ME to learn how to share the information I have, and I see changes everyday in my writing, and the ability to share what I have learned over the course of many years of study.

Looking forward to seeing what else you have to share, here.

  3. The problem is, people expect to get information for free. So much on the web is free (paid for by advertising) that it is hard to get people to pay for something that is seen as non tangible.

  4. Great idea. Free and easy.
