Alright, so I’ve been slacking on the posts this week.  But I have good reason, I promise!  This is the last week to finalize everything that I need to get done for the stand.  I’ve gotten alot accomplished this week, but I was also working, so that kind of hindered my posting.

First off, the Register.  Thank you Goyl for reminding me that calculators exist.  Although I didn’t forget, I did remember that contractually I must use an approved dual tape register device with daily totals and breakdowns available.  So yes, a taped calculator would work, it just wouldn’t fulfill my contract.  Plus, then I’d have to teach all the young kids how to work an oldschool calculator.

I bought a refurb Sharp ER-A202 register from pretty much the only local cash register guy around here.  He supports it, so if I break it, I can just call him up, and he is programing it as well.  It supports serial download of the daily data, which is nice, because I can literally keep the entire summer in Excel.  Works out nice when I have to figure out taxes.

Then there was the fun part of the week.  On Sunday, we were having problems with the batch of coolers.  Since all three are on the same breaker, everytime they all kicked on, it would pop the breaker.  We’ve had these in the same arrangement since we started, but this problem just arose Sunday afternoon.  Everytime it happen, I just went and tripped the breaker and everything was fine.

Well, when we left on Sunday night, they had been on for at least an hour, and so I totally forgot about the problem.  Bad news.  When I went down to get my Pepsi delivery on thursday morning, I found all the coolers off.  Just when I thought things were sort of going to plan.  Lucky for me, two of the coolers were just full of soda and bottled water, so no real loss there, I just had to turn them back on.

But when I opened the food cooler, well that was really something special there.  I lost five cases of hotdogs, a case of pork bbq, two bags of perogies, my ketchup and mustard, and a bag of onions.  Oh yea, and like five blocks of cheese.  Pretty terrible.

So today, I went and filled the cargo van with cases of water and soda, as well as pool toys.  We open for the rest of the summer tomorrow, so I’m going to get up early and go down and clean out the cooler, and then sweep out front and get ready to open.  Should be a good weekend, they want around 95 degrees, and last years numbers for this weekend are promising too.  Now that the regular schedule has started, I’ll be posting daily.

Oh yea, and I think my building has a termite problem.  More on that tomorrow.  And, I would love to hear suggestions on topics I should write about to get a little more people interested.  I’ve got another Obama one brewing, one with some more facts, etc.  Probably tomorrow.  Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

  1. I wish you were around to discuss politics with me. How ’bout Obama’s boy Michael Pfleger? Some guy was discussing the election with a woman while I was out to dinner tonight. He didn’t even know what month the general election took place in. He was talking about who he was going to vote for. How scary is that?

  2. Matt – Congrats on the business adventure. My family and I used to hang out at the Nockamixon pool all the time when I was growing up. Our friends had a boat and we used to do some waterskiing there too. Now my husband stops at the lake there to fish on his way home from work.
I’ll have to try to get there sometime this summer to check out your new place. By what Margaret says – it sounds like you are having fun!!! Keep in touch.
